Local Yarn Stores Are Terrific!

Local yarn stores are not only a source for yarn of all different kinds of fiber (corn, anyone? how about steel?), but it's a place where you can go for inspiration, assistance and instruction. Classes abound from basic learn-how-to-knit/crochet to socks, sweaters and lace shawls. If you have a question about a puzzling stitch or how a certain fiber might work with your pattern, there's someone around that can help you or help you find the answer.

One outstanding feature about local yarn stores is their love for fiber and the crafts involved. I had a chance to visit some lovely local stores while getting out the word for The Purl Street Scarf Project in poster form. It was great to get such a positive and welcoming response from them. This sense of cooperation and participation is encouraging and energizing. It is this penchant for community that should make local yarn stores a primary source for your fiber needs. We support them and they support us. What could be better?
